Danielle Vaughan

My life long affair with colour, texture & pattern began in the 70’s with a house-fire involving vivid nylon purple and turquoise curtains which didn’t burn, but instead melted. This unexpected turn set fire to my curiosity.
I am the artist who offers the familiar and exposes the facade.
My work converses and transposes across the the everyday, the rituals and the traditions within families, societies and raises questions around the complexities of living, articulating the unpalatable truths assimilated through objects of taste and presumed social standing.
I am the artist that revisits the British class wars of the 1970s living room reimagining the writing on the wall in spite of today's revived nostalgia.
With this awareness my social practice unpicks the ingrained injustices, laying bare the social divides that were papered over and through ripping new papers symbolically redecorating towards a fresh understanding with each new layer.
