Operating under the business name: Gillian Durno Paintings
I am a qualified teacher with a degree in primary teaching and art and run regular workshops teaching both adults and children at Stamford Arts Centre. These are updated on my website.
I am a mixed media painter and my work is a celebration of my interest in still life, flowers, landscape and texture. I paint from my airy studio set in the beautiful grounds of North Luffenham Hall in Rutland, and hold my annual open studios in my cottage garden at my home, Lavender Cottage in Ketton.
A passion for flowers and landscape dominate my painting, and am particularly inspired by the continual cycle of nature. I am always making mental notes about colour, shape, line and texture when I am walking around my garden, and driving around the beautiful surrounding countryside where I live.
Texture has become an exciting feature of my work. I enjoy creating layers of texture with collage and mixed media, in particular using tissue paper, acrylics, fillers, inks and copper leaf.
Using a palette knife allows me to scratch out areas of paint, adding interest by revealing unexpected areas of underpainting.
I regularly take on commissions for clients.
My limited edition prints, cards and originals are permanently for sale locally at Gallery Stamford on Maiden Lane in Stamford and other galleries nationally.
